Who Am I?

Quick, go listen to the song Who Am I by Casting Crowns!  Even if you have heard it several times, which I'm sure you probably have.

Isn’t that humbling to think about? Who are we, that the God of all creation would know us, love us, and call us His? But He does. What a privilege we have, to belong to Him and to be invited into His presence.

And because we belong to Him, praise isn’t just something we do when everything feels right, it’s part of who we are.

Isaiah 43:21 says, “This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.”

That means we were formed for Him and created for His glory. Praise was woven into our design from the very beginning. It’s not just something we offer when the song is familiar, when the week went well, or when we feel strong enough to lift our hands.

Praise is part of our identity.

So if praise is part of our identity, then our situation does NOT get the authority to silence what God created us to do, right?

Our emotions may be real and our battles may be heavy. But NONE of that changes who we are and it certainly doesn’t change who HE is.

David, in Psalm 34:1 says, “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” It doesn’t say … just in the good times or just after the breakthrough. It says at all times.

So tonight, we praise because He is God. We praise because we were formed for this.

And sometimes….the strongest praise is the one that rises while the situation is still speaking, but faith decides to speak louder.

So let’s praise Him tonight, not because life is easy, but because He is worthy.
