When Memory Turns Into Praise
Sometimes when people see worship, they don’t always understand it.
They see someone clapping or lifting their hands…
they hear someone singing loudly with joy…
and they wonder why someone would worship like that.
But worship makes a lot more sense when you remember what God has done for you.
Every person in this room has a story.
Every person in this room has something that the Lord brought them through.
A prayer He answered.
A moment He protected you.
A season where you didn’t know how you were going to make it, but somehow God carried you through it.
Some of you know part of my story… and some of you know a little bit about what my family has walked through the last couple of years. Losing my son Levi changed our world in ways I never imagined. There were days when grief felt overwhelming… days that we couldn't even breathe, days when we didn’t know how we were going to move forward.
But even in that… God has been faithful.
He has carried us through when we thought we couldn’t stand.
He has given us strength when there was nothing left of us.
He has brought comfort in moments that felt impossible.
And when I start remembering that… something begins to rise up in my spirit again.
Psalm 126:3 says
The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
And Psalm 77:11
I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
Sometimes....worship comes simply from remembering.
When you remember where God found you…
when you remember what He brought you through…
when you remember the prayers He has answered…
when you remember just who and what God has been in your life…
Joy begins to rise up again.
Psalm 71:23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee.
So if someone next to you worships a little louder today…
or if someone lifts their hands…
or smiles through tears…
Just remember…
You don’t know like they know
what the Lord has done for them.
So before we sing this song… take a moment and remember what the Lord has done for you… where He found you… and where He has brought you from.
And let that joy rise up.
