Some Days, Winning Just Means Not Quitting
Through thee will we push down our enemies:
through thy name wil we tread them
under that rise up against us. - Psalm 44:5
A lot of them feel like trying to keep my head above water while ten different things are coming at me at once.
Sometimes the “enemy” isn’t even a person, is it?
It could be thoughts or discouragement that shows up out of nowhere.
Or maybe it’s that heavy feeling that sits there for no clear reason, or even the stuff that keeps trying to pull you backwards when you’re actually trying to move forward.
And this verse doesn’t say those things won’t show up. It just doesn’t give them the final say.
Because I don’t know about you… but when I try to push through things....on my own, I either get exhausted…frustrated…or I just shut down.
There’s only so much “try harder” in a person, yannow?
But, THANKFULLY, this isn’t about trying harder.
It’s about who you’re moving with.
“we will push down…”
That sounds active.
It gives the idea that we are not to be passive. We shouldn't be waiting for everything to just magically fix itself.
There’s still movement on our part!
And I don't know, but I think that’s where real life meets real faith.
Because sometimes “pushing down” looks like getting out of bed when you don’t feel like it, showing up when your heart isn’t in it, choosing not to spiral when your thoughts are loud, doing the right thing… EVEN when you’re tired of doing.
And it’s not always this big, dramatic victory moment.
Sometimes it’s quiet and messy.
Or sometimes it’s just simply… not giving up today.
“through thy name…”
Now THAT'S the anchor we've been waiting for!
Because our strength runs out, our motivation runs out, and our patience definitely runs out.
But guess what?
His name doesn’t!
And I think that’s what this verse is getting at…
You’re not expected to bulldoze everything in your own strength. And you’re just not supposed to stop moving forward with Him in it.
Real talk?
There are days when you don’t feel strong.
Days where you’re like, “God, I don’t even know what I’m doing right now!”
And even then.... this STILL applies.
Because it was never about you feeling powerful!
And even then.... this STILL applies.
Because it was never about you feeling powerful!
It's about you not standing alone.
So maybe “pushing down enemies” today doesn’t look like anything impressive.
Maybe it just looks like you not giving up and not giving in to what was trying to take you out mentally.
So maybe “pushing down enemies” today doesn’t look like anything impressive.
Maybe it just looks like you not giving up and not giving in to what was trying to take you out mentally.
You kept going… even if it was slow, even if it wasn’t pretty!
And in all reality?
I think THAT counts more than we give it credit for.
