Proverbs8 - Better Than Gold

Have you ever been talking with a close friend and they look you dead in the eye, mid-conversation, and say something that just stops every thought you had going on and makes you want to pay close attention? That’s what Proverbs 8 feels like to me.

Wisdom isn’t hiding in some ivory tower waiting for the smart people to figure her out. Nope. She’s loud. She’s standing right in the middle of life, at the busy intersections, waving her arms like, “Hey! Listen up. This is for you!” And she’s not picky either,,,,,she’s calling out to everybody.

The simple, the ones who have made a
mess of things, the ones still
trying to figure life out.

Basically… us.

It says that wisdom is better than silver and gold. Like, really!? Better than a padded bank account? Better than that thing I think will make me happy? Yep! Because money comes and goes, but wisdom stays. Wisdom helps you not lose your mind when everything else is shaking!

What gets me is when she starts talking about being there before the world was even made. Before mountains, before oceans, before dirt......wisdom was there with God. Almost like she was in on the blueprints.

That means when I live by wisdom, I’m not just making good choices....
I’m lining my life up with how the world was designed to work.

No wonder life feels smoother when you listen, and harder when you don’t.....right? And then she ends with this gut punch: if you find wisdom, you find life. If you ignore her, you’re basically hurting yourself. No sugar-coating. Just straight talk.

So, if you and I were sitting across from each other, lattes in hand, I’d probably lean in and say...Sis, don’t tune her out. Wisdom is yelling for us over all the noise. Let’s not miss her!
