Repurposing

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.  Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?  I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.                    - Isaiah 43:18-19  Whew!  It's been a journey!  While I am glad to be this far into it, I am saddened that not everything that the Lord has done was documented.  HOWEVER, I will share as He brings it to my remembrance.    I will be using this to post my studies that I share twice a month in church and also to share my personal studies as they arise and the Lord leads me to share them.   The grief and healing journey I have been on since my son passed from suicide is more of an in-person ministry right now as it is a raw and sensitive situation.  I am very protective over my son and his sisters and have an obligation to protect their privacy. I may ...

Proverbs 4 - Walk This Way

Let thine eyes look right on, and thine eyelids look straight before thee. – Proverbs 4:25

There’s something urgent in Proverbs 4, isn't there? It’s not just poetic....it’s a father’s plea. It is laid out like Solomon is pressing this truth into the bones of the next generation. He doesn’t suggest wisdom as a nice idea. He commands it as the only way to live.

It feels like a call to clarity....to live on purpose, reject distraction, shortcuts, and compromise.

It’s a map....and a warning.

Wisdom is the principal thing: therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding (v7)

This is Solomon grabbing us by the shoulders. Like he's saying, "Whatever else you chase in life, chase this first. Don’t let it be optional!"

The Hebrew word here for wisdom is chokmah (חָכְמָה). It doesn’t just mean intelligence. It's applied skill, discernment, moral insight.... you know, the kind that shapes choices, relationships, reactions, and priorities. It’s the same word used to describe the craftsmanship of those who built the temple (Exodus 31:3).

Wisdom builds lives like that - piece by piece, with precision and purpose.

Solomon says it’s worth the price. Because without wisdom, everything else crumbles.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (v23) NIV

This feels like the hinge of the whole chapter, doesn't it?  The anchor that holds it steady and gives it weight.

Your heart is the control center of your life. It’s not just your emotions....it’s your desires, your motivations, your will. If that gets poisoned, your life does too!

Guarding your heart means setting boundaries, not building walls. It means watching what you consume, what you replay in your head, what voices you let shape your identity. It means choosing what feeds your soul......AND paying attention to what drains it.

Above all else. That’s not hyperbole. That’s priority!

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. (v14-15)

Wrong path = wrong destination.

And the dangerous part? It doesn’t always look wrong at first. Sometimes the wicked path looks successful. It looks easy. It looks fun. That’s why he says to avoid it!

You don’t drift toward holiness. You turn your eyes towards it and walk there, step by step.....with intention and awareness.

The path of the just is as the shining light,
that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. (v18)

The life shaped by wisdom isn’t perfect, but it certainly is progressing.
There’s growth.
There’s clarity.

You can look back and say, God has brought me far!
You can look forward and say, He’s not done yet.

Following Jesus isn’t about instant arrival...it’s about faithful direction. His Word lights the path, and He gives us the strength for the next step.

So stay on it.
Eyes ahead.
Feet steady.

Write with me -

What do you think is shaping your heart right now?

Where in your life are you tempted to take the “easy path” instead of the wise one?

What voices have the most influence over you?

Do those voices lead you toward wisdom or away from it?

What’s one practical way you can pursue wisdom this week (at work, in relationships, or in a tough decision)?

- Pray with me -

Lord, I don’t want to walk in confusion or compromise. I want to walk with intention towards your will for my life.  I want to walk on the path of wisdom that honors you and shapes my decisions, even if it costs me. Teach me to guard my heart and walk with integrity. Help me resist the shortcuts and distractions that lead me off track. Strengthen my steps as I live a life in your wisdom each day.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
