Repurposing

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.  Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?  I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.                    - Isaiah 43:18-19  Whew!  It's been a journey!  While I am glad to be this far into it, I am saddened that not everything that the Lord has done was documented.  HOWEVER, I will share as He brings it to my remembrance.    I will be using this to post my studies that I share twice a month in church and also to share my personal studies as they arise and the Lord leads me to share them.   The grief and healing journey I have been on since my son passed from suicide is more of an in-person ministry right now as it is a raw and sensitive situation.  I am very protective over my son and his sisters and have an obligation to protect their privacy. Proverbs 27 - Reflections of the Heart

Boast not thyself of to morrow;
for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. (v1)

We make plans, set goals, and talk about “tomorrow” like it’s guaranteed. But this verse pulls us back to humility.  Life is fragile, and the future is in God’s hands, not ours. It’s not saying don’t plan; it’s saying don’t presume. Live today with faithfulness, because tomorrow isn’t promised.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. (v6)

Real friends don’t just flatter you. They tell you the truth, yes, even when it stings a little. Godly correction is an act of love, not betrayal. Compare that to an enemy’s “kisses” .....words that feel sweet but are poisoned underneath. This verse reminds us to treasure the people who love us enough to be honest, even when it hurts.

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man
sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. (v17)

I think this is one of the most quoted verses in Proverbs, and it's for a very good reason. True friendship and community make us sharper, stronger, better. It’s not always comfortable though because iron on iron creates sparks....BUT it produces strength. God designed us to need each other, to refine one another, and to grow in fellowship.

As in water face answereth to face,
so the heart of man to man. (v19)

Do you know how many times I had to read that verse!?  It just wasn't clicking, it wasn't making any sense.  I was not grasping it.  Sometimes, we have to open another version of the Bible (could be two or three even) to get different wording, and that's okay.  The NIV says "as water reflects the face..."  Ahhhhh, okay.  A comma would've been nice there. :)

Like seeing your reflection in a calm pond, we reflect one another’s hearts. Who you surround yourself with shapes you more than you realize. We tend to become like the people closest to us. This verse urges us to choose wisely the company we keep.

Another chapter of Proverbs pointing us toward wisdom in relationships......humility before God, honesty among friends, sharpening one another, and reflecting His truth in our hearts.

The way we treat one another and who we allow close will either push us closer to wisdom or deeper into folly.

Choose carefully, love honestly, and live each day as the gift it is.
