Proverbs 10 - Wisdom in an Age of Rage
Woah! I am only on chapter 10 and it's the 15th today! I've got a lot of work on my plate this week. Plus, it's my study week, which means I have to hunker down and pick out songs and scriptures. Even though I'm still not feeling the best (but definitely better), I can see daybreak right around the corner!
Let's jump in!
We can think of Proverbs 10 like a treasure chest. Every verse is a coin....small on its own, but together, they create a wealth of wisdom for how to actually live day by day.
A righteous life leaves behind a legacy that blesses future generations. The wicked, however, fade into ruin. We are watching this play out in real time. Some people are remembered for their godly convictions, others only for their corruption or destruction.
It’s no secret that tthe words we speak can refresh, heal, and give life… or they can destroy. A righteous person speaks in a way that pours life into others, but the wicked spew violence.
We don’t have to look far to see this truth. In the wake of the very public assassination of Charlie Kirk, a man firm in his biblical convictions, we’ve also seen the violence of words on full display. Rage and slander shouted with hatred, aimed not only at him but at the truth he stood for and everyone who stands in the same shoes. Proverbs reminds us that this isn’t new. Wickedness has always tried to shout down righteousness. But words rooted in God’s truth remain a well of life....quiet, steady streams that cannot be silenced.
He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall. (v10)
Winking here points to craftiness...concealing one’s true intentions. The “prating fool” is the one who fills the air with foolish talk that never builds up. Both end in ruin!
The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot. (v7)

The trail we leave matters - not just today, but for years to come.
The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life:
but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. (v11)

Today, we live in a world full of secret schemes and nonstop noise. Yet Proverbs calls us to something different...honesty, transparency, and words that carry weight instead of emptiness.
Proverbs 10 isn’t just ancient poetry. It’s a mirror held up to our times.
Words are being weaponized.
Deception is rampant.
Diligence is rare.
But righteousness still matters.
Our speech can still refresh, our actions can still honor God, and our legacy can still shine in a dark world.
Now is not the time for careless chatter or fearful silence. Now is the time for righteous words, faithful work, and lives anchored in the blessing of God.
