Peace in the Chaos: A Psalm 65 Reflection
One of the chapters I read this morning was Psalm 65. It is filled with praise and declarations of God's goodness. provision, and power over creation.
David acknowledges God not just as the Creator of all things, but as the One who sustains and satisfies.
I always have a piece of paper right next to me and I jot down the verses that stand out the most to me in that moment. Today it was verses 6 and 7.
Let's take a closer look....
This isn't just talking about some distant god.....this is talking about a present and powerful God whose hands are strong enough to form the highest peaks and steady our trembling hearts.
If He can secure the mountains, He can surely secure you.
“Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.”
The same God who calms the roaring seas is able to calm the noise of conflict, fear, anxiety, and unrest!
The word “tumult” means confusion, disorder, or uproar.
Sound familiar in the world we live in today?
You'll see when you read Psalm 65 in it's entirety, that it boasts of God's provision.
He visits the earth.
He waters it.
He blesses it.
He fills it with goodness and makes the paths overflow with abundance.
But what stands out is the peace that He brings in the middle of the happenings that sets the tone for the blessings that follow.
Before the harvest comes the hush.
Before provision comes peace.
And before joy comes the quieting of the storm.
If you find yourself overwhelmed by the noise around you or even IN you.... please remember
-
He sets fast the mountains (He can stabilize your life!)
-
He stills the seas (He can calm your chaos!)
-
He silences the tumult (He can bring peace where there’s been unrest!)
He is the God who speaks to the storm... and it listens.
